Autumn days of home

The soft pitter patter of light rain descends,
the rays of sunshine leak through the leaves
reaching my face like a lover's touch,
offering warm moments as I walk through the funnels of foilage
that arc along the by-roads and botharins of home,

I walk and forget and reminisce all at once,
The cows stare and watch without understanding
and still I'm glad they are there as a calm company,
My heart slows,
My mind eases,

The road begins it journey to its end,
reality returns as a reminder to my life,
A brief moment of serenity in the gloaming
all too soon floats away and gone.

The soft pitter patter of light rain descends,
the rays of sunshine leak through the leaves
reaching my face like a lover's touch,
offering warm moments as I walk through the funnels of foilage
that arc along the by-roads and botharins of home.

I Am The Captain Of My Soul

Out of the night that covers me
black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be
for my unconquerable soul

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud
Under the bludgeonings of chance
my head is bloody, but unbowed

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
looms but the horror of the shade
and yet the menace of the years
finds, and shall find me, unafraid

It matters not how strait the gate
how charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul

ex-Thinker

Elusive, rare, scarce, sparse, exceptional...all words that can be used to describe the 'one that got away'. Its the New Year and as with all New Years, one turns to abit of reminiscing and starts reviewing the year gone past, and before you know it your reviewing your whole life, your whole damn life. "Regrets I've had a few"...bollox to that...regrets I've had a barn full. The ones that stick out the most are mostly women I broke up with. I think this is a normal male thing to do when he finds himself single with no lines of inquiry for future women. There is one in particular, a girl I was going out with when I was in college in Ucc, by jove she was awesome, tanned, smart, hot as hell (experiencing an area of high pressure that probably going to be around until Saturday when a low pressure area will come sweeping in from the west) and I, younger I, decided to break up with her because she was too clingy, What! WHAT! was I thinking, shes gone on to do medicine and is probably helping save lives in some foreign land. Its nice to think that if I'd chosen to stay with her that life would be 'neutral' right now, what I mean by neutral is that we'd have the apartment together, maybe even a dog and life would be comfortable like an old armchair that envelopes your form perfectly so that you don't have to fidget to get comfortable, you just are. But these are only dreams and ideals, only a utopian version of life that can only ever survive in the safety of your imagination where it is protected from all the harsh realities of the reality itself. Still though its nice to think along those lines sometimes. New Years Resolution: lessen the amount of ones that get away because of foolish decisions. and give up smoking...

One Study to Rule Them...

I'm living in the library at the moment. I look like Gollum. My eyes are tired, I'm all gray and sickly and I keep seeing hobbits (they may be first years with hairy feet or ug boots I dunno at this stage)...and I won't even tell you about my precious....ah ye gods all I'm waiting for now is Gandalf to appear and shout, 'Thou Shall Not Pass!' in my ear. I swear he'd get some sword to the face...

Santa's little helper

Got a wee santa teddy for my nephew, left it in the shed, tidied away till it gets closer to Christmas. I went in to get it today. no where to be seen...next thing I spot the end of a blonde tail disappearing round the corner. Called out for the hound, he ignored me, then I catch a glimpse of a red/white mess in the dark recesses of his kennel...santa came away pretty uncathed but the bauble at the end of his hat was gone...chewed off..for the next ten minutes I'm running around outside in gale force winds chasing the dog around the garden trying to get santa's bauble back...tis the season...

Just Horsing Around

There I was walking along an empty college corridor with a woman a few paces in front of me, I'm kinda day dreaming reading a text message, when I start clicking my tongue in time with the noise of the girl's heels in front of me..."clip clop clip clop"- then I was completely unaware that she had stopped and was now looking straight at me with pure disdain...panicking I had no choice but to continue "clip clop clip clopping" as I walked past her...ah yes, as I always say its the little things.

Behold the Nicholas!

(Enter Nicholas, he lets out a manly roar): AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH! I feel such a man, You see there are a number of things that help a man feel manly. (Enter large gentials reference here). These include things such as being able to top up the petrol or diesel in your car, to the exact amount without going over by even a single cent. Opening a particularly tough jar in just one go. Having a barmaid ask if "your having your usual?", Refitting a plug, changing a pipe and checking a fuse box. Ah yes; Ecco Homo indeed - behold the man!........however this feeling of strenght should never be said aloud in the company of women since a simple 'tut' or sometimes even a glance can deflate you in seconds so the next time you feel confident and manly because of something you've done, for god sake keep it to yourself and enjoy it.

Diy - why do I try?

attempted to repair my own brakes in the micra today, apparently a small car contains roughly 30,000 parts, the brake calliper in my micra would seem to contain a total of 29,998 of these. It cost me 60 euro to get a qualified person to repair my repair...would I do it again...of course.

T.S Eliot - Prufrock

Let us go then, you and I,

When the evening is spread out against the sky
And indeed there will be time
To wonder, “Do I dare?” and, “Do I dare?”
Do I dare
Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.
For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons,
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?
And I have known the arms already, known them all–
Arms that are braceleted and white and bare
(But in the lamplight, downed with light brown hair!)
Is it perfume from a dress
That makes me so digress?
And would it have been worth it, after all,
After the cups, the marmalade, the tea,
Among the porcelain, among some talk of you and me,
Would it have been worth while,
To have bitten off the matter with a smile
And would it have been worth it, after all,
Would it have been worth while,
After the sunsets and the dooryards and the sprinkled streets,
After the novels, after the teacups, after the skirts that trail along the floor–
And this, and so much more?–
I grow old … I grow old …
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled
Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?
I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.
I do not think that they wil sing to me.
